12 AG GRUPPEN ANNUAL REPORT 2020 OUR HOMES Development of the mixed city As developers, we think a lot about how our projects can contribute to creating a diverse and sustainable city with healthy communities. In Øre- stad South for example, where we celebrated our 10th anniversary this year, we built a single block encompassing a variety of residential forms and in collaboration with several different contractors. The ‘Hesteskoen’ or horseshoe block consists in total of 486 residential units, including both owner-occupied and privately rented as well as social housing, plus a covered car park with 294 parking spaces. In 2020, we broke ground on yet another social housing project in Øre- stad South, where we are constructing a municipal day-care institution and 148 homes for AAB. This has also been designed as a single block with a mix of public and private rental homes, with a shared green cour- tyard and access to the kindergarten’s playground outside the institution’s opening hours. We are committed to social housing projects because we want to con- tribute towards a diverse and mixed city. A good mix of residential forms in a city helps to create dialogue, strengthen community and ensure a cohesive society. Architecture should not create a distinction between people, but rather encourage communities and good neighbours by for- ming a backdrop for people to meet and get to know each other better. The public and private apartments will share a large open courtyard and benefit from the day care centre’s play area outside opening hours.
